Razorpay PM Interview: Fintech Product Sense + RCA Guide (2026)
The Razorpay PM interview is 6 rounds over roughly 7 weeks: recruiter screen, two hiring manager rounds, a product sense round, a root cause analysis round on payment failures, and a final with a VP. The RCA round is unique to fintech and decides most offers. This guide covers the 2-HM round sequence that surprises most candidates, what the RCA round actually looks like, and a live practice room.
The Razorpay Loop: 7 Weeks, 6 Rounds
- ●Week 1: Recruiter screen (30 min).
- ●Week 2: HM1 (45 min). Background, scope calibration, light case.
- ●Week 3: HM2 (45 min). Deeper case, ownership scenarios, team fit.
- ●Week 4: Product Sense round (60 min).
- ●Week 5-6: Root Cause Analysis round (60 min).
- ●Week 7: VP round (45 min). Strategy and culture fit.
The RCA Round: What Makes It Hard
The RCA round is a simulated incident. You get a metric drop or a payment failure surge, and you have to walk through how you would diagnose it. The interviewer plays multiple roles: engineering lead, ops lead, merchant success. You need to pull signals, form hypotheses, eliminate the wrong ones, and converge on the most likely cause.
The scoring rubric includes five dimensions: hypothesis quality, data you request, elimination logic, prioritization under time pressure, and the remediation you would ship. A 4-score candidate converges on the likely cause within 20 minutes and proposes a 3-part remediation: immediate patch, systemic fix, detection improvement.
Sample RCA Scenarios
- ●"UPI success rate on merchant X dropped from 95% to 81% this morning. Diagnose."
- ●"Cards payments on SBI issuer are timing out 25% of the time. Walk me through your investigation."
- ●"Settlement to merchants is 12 hours late today. Ops is asking for your call."
- ●"Fraud rate on a specific ecommerce segment tripled overnight. What do you do in the next 4 hours?"
The 2-HM Round Sequence: Why Most Candidates Are Surprised
Two HM rounds is not common in Indian PM loops. Razorpay does this because the HM and the skip-level HM need to both align on fit before the candidate moves to panel. A mistake candidates make is giving the same case narrative twice. The second HM will push you harder on a specific aspect of your earlier answer. Be ready to add new depth in round 2, not repeat round 1.
Product Sense Examples (Fintech Flavor)
- ●"Design a Razorpay feature to help small merchants manage cash flow."
- ●"How would you improve recurring billing for subscription SaaS merchants in India?"
- ●"Design a dashboard for merchants to debug their own payment failures."
- ●"Razorpay wants to enter cross-border payments for Indian freelancers. Design the first version."
VP Round: What Gets Tested
- ●Strategy question on a fintech thesis (UPI monetization, ONDC, CBDC).
- ●Ownership story: a moment you made a bet that could have gone wrong.
- ●Why Razorpay over a FAANG offer or a US startup.
